Optical Coherence Tomography
Welcome to the new world of high-tech optometry, where breakthroughs in ophthalmic imaging make the retina’s inner workings transparent to a degree unimaginable even a few years ago.
It is called Optical Coherence Tomography, “OCT” for short. OCT is a non-invasive technology used for imaging the retina, the multi-layered sensory tissue lining the back of the eye.
OCT, the first instrument to allow optometrists to see cross-sectional images of the retina, is revolutionising the early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as macular holes, pre-retinal membranes, macular swelling and even optic nerve damage.
For certain conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration and cystoid macular edema, the 45 second OCT procedure is able to reduce or eliminate the need for fluorescein angiography for some patients.
All optometrists at Da Rin have access to the latest technology in OCT scanning; the Topcon Maestro 3D OCT which offers high resolution macula, optic nerve and true colour fundus imaging.

Visual Field Testing
A VISUAL FIELD TEST is an eye examination that can detect dysfunction in the central and peripheral vision which may be caused by various medical conditions such as Glaucoma, stroke, brain tumours or other neurological deficits. The visual field is the entire area that can be seen when the eyes are focused on a single point. In addition to what can be seen straight ahead, the visual field includes what can be seen above, below and to either side of the point the eyes are focused on.
We use the latest most effective technology to measure the visual fields: The Humphrey’s Field Analyzer HFA3. It provides a streamlined and faster workflow and is considered the ‘gold standard’ of perimetry.
